Ocracoke Current Events 9/29/14
As of September 27th, the ferry division made a slight change to the fall schedule for the Hatteras ferry route, adding a 7am departure from Hatteras and deleting the 7pm run.
On the Ocracoke side, they added an 8:30am departure and deleted the 8:30pm run.

Deepwater Theater shows: Culture! Bluegrass, Molasses Creek, and Sonic Escape this wee at Deepwater Theater. Check out this link for info about the special shows this week on Wednesday and Saturday. Molasses Creek will be in concert on Thursday nights throughout October. More info here.
Flu Shot Clinic: October 1, 2014, 3:30 - 5:30pm @ Ocracoke Health Center
They file Medicare, NC Medicaid, Tricare, United Health Care, Medcost, and Blue Cross. If you are uninsured, please inquire about the Medical Value Plan (MVP) plan to help with costs.
Go Dolphins! The middle school volleyball Dolphins will go up against the Columbia Wildcats on Wednesday at 4pm. Come out and show your support!
The high school volleyball teams travel to Mattamuskeet and Creswell this week, the varsity cross country team will run at Gates County, and the middle school volleyball team will also go to Mattamuskeet. Wish them luck in their off-island competitions! Fear the Pod!
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Saturday, October 4, Jason's Restaruant will be donating a portion of their proceeds to Hyde County Hotline in support of our mission to promote dignity, respect and safety at home, resulting in safer communities. Please support victims and survivors in Hyde County by enjoying one of Jason's great meals that day.

Mark your calendars for the annual PTA Halloween Carnival on October 24th! Volunteers are needed! Contact PTA president Ivey Belch at 921-0021 if you want to help with carnival games, hot dog sales, the cake walk, the costume parade, and/or the ever-popular Quiz-O. You can also find one of the other PTA officers (Susan O’Neal, Ashley Harrell, Deena Yeatts, Paige Bennett, or Jennifer Daniels) and offer to help her.
Raffle tickets are on sale now for the four PTA raffles (the winning tickets will be drawn at Quiz-O on the 24th.) Tickets $2 each for your choice of
1) Brunch for 4 at the Flying Melon, Native Parasailing for 2, and Dinner for 2 at the Back Porch;
2) a two-night stay at a cottage in Nags Head (donated by Village Realty);
3) a scoop of topsoil or clay donated by Jerry’s trucking;
or 4) a 50/50 cash raffle (winner gets half/PTA gets half).
You can buy raffle tickets at the Variety Store, Ocracoke Island Realty, and Post Office.
The PTA recently gave each teacher at Ocracoke School $100; they do that every year to help teachers with classroom needs.
Ocracoke Child Care wants to send you on a Caribbean Cruise! For just $20, you can support the island's only daycare center and enter a drawing for a 2-person, 5-day Caribbean cruise (the prize includes $500 cash to spend on travel expenses!) Tickets are available at Ocracoke Child Care, Pirates Chest, Topless Oyster, or the Post Office. The winning ticket will be drawn at Ocracoke Child Care on November 3rd!
Silent Auction items are needed for the Ocracoke United Methodist Women's annual Fall Bazaar (November 8th). They're collecting donations now for the Silent Auction. The Fall Bazaar is the OUMW's biggest fundraiser and helps provide: mission kits, potlucks for the church and community, and upkeep of the parsonage and Rec Hall. Call or text Stella O'Neal at 252-928-8726 to donate an auction item.
