Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry On Amended Schedule Through Dec. 19th

Press Release

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division announced today that its Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route will temporarily be switching to the “alternate” route across Hatteras Inlet while the U.S. Coast Guard places buoys in the state navigation channel.

That operation began today and is expected to wrap up during the day on Thursday.

Because the alternate route is about 13 minutes longer than the traditional route across the inlet, the ferry will adopt a temporary schedule change that takes the additional transit time into consideration.

The temporary schedule, effective immediately, is as follows:

DEPARTING HATTERAS:

  • 5 a.m., 6, 8, 9, 11, Noon, 2 p.m., 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, and midnight.

DEPARTING OCRACOKE:

  • 4:30 a.m., 6:30, 7:30, 9:30, 10:30, 12:30 p.m., 1:30, 3:30, 4:30, 6:30, 7:30, 9:30, 10:30, and 12:30 a.m.

The route will return to its normally scheduled hourly departures from both terminals once the Coast Guard operation is complete.
