Patrol Cars Vandalized
Anyone with information about damage done to two highway patrol cars is urged to come forward.
The patrol cars driven by Sergeant Beau Daniel and Trooper Christopher Moore were vandalized early Saturday morning. A cinder block was thrown through the rear window of one car, the other was painted with a yellow green paint. The cars were parked at the Pony Island Motel.
The Ocracoke Sheriff's Department is working the case.
"I strongly urge people to come forward if they know or have any information about the case," said Sergeant Jason Daniels.
News of the incident will "spread like wildfire through the law enforcement community," said Daniels, who characterized the vandalism as "uncalled for."
Daniels is a valued member of the community, who spoke for many others when he said, "It's embarrassing that this has happened."
On Thursday, May 2 Sergeant Beau Daniel said to call anytime, and that he was glad to answer questions and to provide Ocracoke Current with the reports of citations and arrests he and Trooper Moore made while on the island. After the incident, Sergeant Daniel said his superior, First Sergeant Brandon Craft, would handle contacts with the press and public.
Craft is the head of District IV in Troop A, which patrols Hyde, Tyrrell, Washington and Beaufort Counties. Craft came to the island on Sunday afternoon, met with Sergeant Jason Daniels, and contacted this reporter, who was on her way to work.
