Hyde County Disaster Relief Fund Needs Volunteers

The HCDRF was organized to help distribute disaster relief funds following Hurricane Floyd in 1999 with volunteers from throughout the county assisting. Donated funds, clothes, household goods, furniture, appliances and other items have been distributed to Hyde County citizens with un-met needs following various disasters. Members of the Committee coordinate with other relief agencies and the County of Hyde Emergency Management to find resources to aid county residents in need. 

Committee Co-Vice Chairman Jeffrey Stotesberry stresses the need for good committee members: “We need citizens from both the Mainland and Ocracoke who are willing to actively serve their community in a time of need.”

“We realize that everyone has busy lives, and we don’t meet just to be meeting, but when a disaster hits, there is an immediate need to help our neighbors.”

“We are especially looking for members on Ocracoke who could be available via telephone and/or email to help us coordinate our services on the island, he elaborated.
