Potential Hazardous Weather Could Affect Ferry Routes
Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division announces that travelers planning to use ferries today through Saturday, Jan. 24-26, could experienc suspensions at some routes due to a coastal low pressure system. Travelers are cautioned to call ahead to check for weather-related closings.
The Currituck-Knotts Island ferry suspended operations today at 11 a.m., due to strong Northwest winds blowing 33 miles per hour, gusting to 40 mph. Ferries cannot operate due to low water in the Currituck Sound.
A strong low pressure system will affect eastern North Carolina in a variety of ways including strong winds and higher gusts, as well as rain, snow, ice, and freezing rain.Travelers planning to use ferry routes this weekend are advised to check with the departure terminal for up-to-date information.
