Walt is O'Neal of the Week
He is a sensitive soul who is kind to everyone. I cornered him on the Cedar Island ferry, where he works as a deckhand, and he reluctantly agreed to be interviewed and pose for a photo on deck.
Ocracoke Current: Who is your favorite Disney character?
Walt: Donald Duck, I guess.
Ocracoke Current: Where would you go on your dream vacation?
Walt: The Bahamas.
Ocracoke Current: What's the most romantic thing you've ever done for a woman?
Walt: Bought her roses and took her to dinner.
Ocracoke Current: How long have you worked on the ferry?
Walt: 11 years.
Ocracoke Current: Why do ferry workers always wave you forward one or two extra centimeters before telling you to "set your parking brake"?
Walt: A lot of time we have to pack 'em in there.
Ocracoke Current: What do you do on your weeks off?
Walt: Mess around.
Ocracoke Current: Who would win in a fist fight, you or your brother Carl?
Walt: Me. No, put Carl.
Ocracoke Current: What's the last movie you saw in a theater?
Walt: That's definitely going to take me a minute. I ain't been to a movie theater in 20 years.
Ocracoke Current: Who is your movie star crush?
Walt: Jenny, what are you doing to me?
Ocracoke Current: What do you want for Christmas?
Walt: Happiness.
Ocracoke Current: If someone gives you that, ask them where they got it and let me know. What else should people know about you?
Walt: There's not a lot about me that they need to know.
Ocracoke Current: What's your favorite traditional Ocracoke meal?
Walt: Boiled drum and arsh taters.
Ocracoke Current: Arsh taters?
Walt: They're mashed potatoes. That's just how we say it.
