PHOTO UPDATE! Ocracoke News at Sunrise
Check out photos of the news crew here. Visit the WITN site to read their report.
The Current heard through the grapevine (Facebook, actually) that we should investigate the rumor that WITN (the local NBC-affiliate station that broadcasts from Washington, NC) would be here this Friday to do their morning show!
A quick call to WITN's news director Stephanie Shoop confirmed the story. It's true: The News at Sunrise will broadcast via satellite from a yet-to-be-determined location on Ocracoke.
The sunrise show is anchored and produced by Heather King, who will be on the island with her sidekick and weatherman Jim Howard. They'll be interviewing local people from 5 'til 7 a.m. (Perhaps I'll let the smug early risers tell me about it later...)
Ms Shoop told me that typically they send an "advance guy" to decide on the location. He'll be here Thursday, scoping out the scene. They're considering the lighthouse, or maybe somewhere on the harbor. I suggested the Community Square, and she said it was on the list of possibilities. The location is determined in part by the strength of the satellite signal.
Ms King has been contacting local personalities to set up interviews. I heard a few names mentioned, but don't we all want to be surprised?
