Local Blogger Drives into Ditch
Philip was turning his truck around on Highway 12 and found himself in a mire, with a steady stream of Memorial Day weekend traffic rubber-necking past. A storyteller and local historian, Philip writes the popular Ocracoke Journal. Today he learned something new about Ocracoke: there's a low spot on the shoulder across from the Variety Store.
Both Ocracoke police and tow truck driver Jesse Spencer witnessed the mishap and instantly stepped in to assist. Officers stopped traffic while the truck was unstuck. Within minutes Philip was back on the road, heading in the right direction, with another story to tell.
"What a great metaphor for a community that works together," commented one bystander.
