Shaquille O'Neal cherishes his connection to Ocracoke.

Shaquille is O'Neal of the Week!

Ocracoke Current:  What role do you see yourself having on Ocracoke, now that you've retired from the NBA?

Shaquille:  As my great friend Aristotle said, ‘If you cannot command, you must learn to listen.’ I’m not the hierarchy here. I am a worker bee.  I am the master marketer.

Ocracoke Current:  Some people think you should be the first mayor of Ocracoke.

Shaquille:  I've been there and done that.  I've had three, no five, terms of being the man.

Ocracoke Current:  What do you think about the changing economy on Ocracoke?

Shaquille O'Neal:  I never worry about the problem. I worry about the solution.  I'm tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money.  I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok.

Ocracoke Current:  What's your favorite TV show?

Shaquille:  TV corrupts the mind.  I never watch TV.

Shaquille is O'Neal of the Week!

Ocracoke Current:  Oh, okay.  That sounds a little pretentious.

Shaquille:  If you don’t like me, there must be something wrong with you.

Ocracoke Current:  Where did you go on your last vacation?

Shaquille:  I am the number one Ninja and I have killed all the Shoguns in front of me.

Ocracoke Current:  I see.  What advice do you give to young people?

Shaquille:  I’ve succeeded at every level, except high school and college.  I’ve won at every level, except college and pro.  Me shooting 40% at the foul line is just Gods way to say nobody's perfect.

Ocracoke Current:  What's your favorite traditional Ocracoke food?

Shaquille:  I'm feeling pretty good.  I'm taking yoga, a new form called gyrotonics.  Look it up.  Like gyro the sandwich,  plus tonics.
