O'Neal of the Week

Jenny Scarborough

When Charles O'Neal unexpectedly showed up at the Ocracoke-Hatteras home game on Friday,

people were hopping out of  their seats with big smiles, eager for a handshake and hug.

Charles has some things in common with other island O'Neals:   he's charismatic and generous, he looks like he has some Irish roots, and he made his career working on the water, retiring from the US Coast Guard after 20 years of service.

Which makes him the perfect person to be the first "O'Neal of the Week" in the Ocracoke Current.  We'll be featuring a different island O'Neal each week and asking some hard-hitting questions.  We are not going to even attempt to explain how everyone is related.

OC:  What are you up to these days?

Charles:  I'm living in Washington for a little longer and then I'm moving back here.  I now work for the Army Corps of Engineers.

OC: Where did you go on your last vacation?

Charles:  We went to Florida.  To St. Pete.

OC:  What did you eat today for lunch?

Charles:  Raw oysters that Steve Wilson got.

OC:  If you were a cartoon character, who would you be and why?

Charles:  Hmmmm.  I don't know how to answer that.
