Ocracoke TDA names Theorem agency of record

Ocracoke Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has selected Theorem as the organization’s new Agency of Record (AOR).

Theorem, a Raleigh-based virtual agency that specializes in tourism and tech clients, was selected by Ocracoke TDA following a formal review that included agencies from North Carolina and Virginia.

Theorem will help differentiate and define the brand message for Ocracoke TDA through strategy, content, design and production, media planning and buying, digital and social media marketing, and other efforts aimed at increasing shoulder season visitation.

“The TDA board was searching for fresh ideas and an authentic perspective,” said Amy Howard, Chair of Ocracoke TDA. “After navigating Hurricane Dorian and then COVID-19, we were looking for and agreed on a partner who is excited about helping us find creative ways to engage with current and prospective visitors to our special island.”

“There are few places in this country that are truly unique. Ocracoke Island is certainly one of those places,” said Scott Scaggs, founder of Theorem. “We look forward to creating a campaign that captures its personality.”

Ocracoke Civic and Business Association hired an advertising firm with TDA funds in 2017 to create this logo. It will be replaced by a Theorem design soon.

About Ocracoke Tourism Development Authority:

A barrier island along North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island is home to 14 miles of pristine, undeveloped beaches, the oldest working lighthouse on the East Coast, wild ponies, and the historic maritime village of Ocracoke. The Ocracoke TDA’s objective is to promote travel and tourism to Ocracoke Island for the economic benefit and development of the community. Find out how to plan your visit at www.visitocracokenc.com, the official website for Ocracoke Tourism Development Authority. The Ocracoke TDA board members are: Amy Howard, chair; Daphne Bennink, Jen Mongan, Lisa Landrum, and Martha Garrish. The TDA employs four paid staff members: Executive director, Helena Stevens; administrative assistant, Dana Long; bookkeeper, Jeff Dippold; and social media manager, Kathryn Waldrop.

The Ocracoke TDA was created in 2017 after the Hyde County Board of Commissioners voted to enact the extra 2% occupancy tax that funds the TDA. The TDA administers the proceeds of the 2% occupancy tax (charged in addition to Ocracoke's regular occupancy tax of 3%, which is doled out by another 5-member board). The TDA board members are appointed by the Board of Commissioners; at least two TDA board members must be (per statute) involved in the lodging business on Ocracoke.

About Theorem:

Though one of the youngest agencies in the Triangle, Theorem is a collective of industry veterans, many of whom held VP or C-level positions at previous agencies and who bring decades of tourism experience to the table. Clients reply on Theorem for strategy, content creation and design, media planning and buying, and a range of other services that enable them to realize meaningful and tangible results. By virtue of Theorem’s size and model, the agency is quite nimble, delivering ideas and answers at the speed of business, while also relying on its members’ depth of experience to produce high quality work, consistently, and faster than the traditional agency structure typically allows.
