What's open, closed, happening -- and NOT happening -- this week on Ocracoke.

This week:

On Tuesday morning, the Ocracoke Control Group will meet to discuss Hyde County's response to COVID-19. 

Also on Tuesday, the Post-Dorian Support Group will meet as usual at 4:30pm, Post-Dorian Support Group meeting @ Lightship Realty: Free support group for grief and loss. All residents are welcome. Facilitated by Ruth Fordon and Desiree Ricker.

We'll be on generator power, and won't have telephone and data services overnight Tuesday. The outage will begin at 11:59pm Tuesday night. Service is expected to be restored before 7:00am Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday morning, the Hyde County BOC will hold an emergency meeting at 8am at the Hyde County Government Center and Ocracoke Community Center.

OCBA Civic Affairs meeting will take place online on Facebook Live at 6pm. Even if you don't have Facebook, you can still participate. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/HydeCountyNC/

Closures and cancellations due to COVID-19:

  • Ocracoke School is closed through March 30th.
  • Books to Be Red, Village Craftsmen, and Island Artworks are closed.
  • Ocracoke Library is closed through March 31st. 
  • Island Yoga's group classes are cancelled. Message Savana directly at 919-696-7179 for private classes.
  • WOVV annual meeting on 3/19 is cancelled.
  • Library Storytime on 3/31 is cancelled.
  • PTA Variety Show on 3/21 is postponed.

Restaurants and bars are closed except for carry-out.

Sorella's opens for the season on Thursday. Hours will be Thursday–Monday, 11am-2pm and 5pm-8pm. Carry-out for lunch; carry-out or delivery for dinner. 

1718 Brewery/Plum Pointe Kitchen is open Monday–Saturday, 5pm-8pm for carry-out food and discounted crowlers of beer. (252) 928-BEER or (252) 928-7586

Zillie's Island Pantry is open for carry-out or delivery, 4pm-7:30pm daily. (252) 928-9036.

Howard's Pub: The Pub will be open Wednesday serving take out food from 11:30-1:30 and 5-7p.m. Cheeseburgers, French Fries, Chicken Wings; Crab Cake, Fried Fish and Grilled Chicken Sandwiches along with a variety of munchies including Chicken Tenders, Santa Fe Eggrolls, Cheese Sticks and a few other "delectables." They are taking this one day at a time, just like everyone else. Call for orders 252-928-4441

The Variety Store is open and well-stocked. They even have toilet paper!

Ocracoke Health Center: According to the advice of public health officials, the Ocracoke Health Center urges those experiencing flu-like symptoms to call the Ocracoke Health Center to minimize exposure. Enter for you to see if you have flu-like symptoms. To reduce exposure to patients with flu-like symptoms, the Ocracoke Health Center will receive routine visits, including drug renovations and follow-up from 8 a.m. Monday to Friday. If you have already scheduled a wellness visit and have not been contacted by a staff member at the Ocracoke Health Center, call 252-928-1511 to reschedule it. The rest of the schedule will be dedicated to sickness visits. This helps keep limited space in the waiting room properly disinfected. 

Ocracoke Mobile Veterinarian: Dr. Laura Trent will be departing Ocracoke on 3/20/20 to go to rural MO for the duration of the COVID 19 pandemic due to high risk family members. Please contact the clinic at 252-923-3787. There will be some availability by phone throughout for questions or records forwarding. Please order through 800Petmeds (not Chewy) for any medication during Dr. Trent's absence. 

Ocracoke Churches: 

All services and activities at Ocracoke United Methodist Church and Ocracoke Lifesaving Church are cancelled until further notice.

Looking ahead....

Portsmouth Homecoming on 4/25 is cancelled.
Ocracoke RunFest Weekend (5K,10K,1/2 Marathon), scheduled for 4/25 and 4/26, has been postponed until 11/14 and 11/15.
