A favorite Ocracoke eatery re-opens today after hurricane damage.

Jade López and José Suazo own and operate what has come to be known as “The Blue Truck” by locals and visitors alike. Officially known as Taqueria 504 Suazo's, they primarily serve TexMex cuisine and authentic Honduran specials on occasion.

Like many Ocracoke business owners, they suffered substantial damage when hurricane Dorian hit. After the storm, Jade and José found their food storage building flooded and their freezers floating in 3 feet of flood water. Luckily the truck itself did not experience serious damage.

A little over four months have passed since the storm. Jade and José have become more aware of the extent of the damage and are feeling the financial toll. Their appliances alone cost $10k to replace. They also had to replace the $6k worth of food in the freezers.

Jade and José would like to thank Zita Pietrus for organizing a gofundme and everyone who donated to help them get back on their feet. The gofundme has raised a little over $6k. If you would like to donate to further assist them, please follow this link.

Despite their hardship, Jade and José are thrilled to be reopening and look forward to the coming season. They opened this morning, Monday January 20th, at 8am and would love to see you. They are located at 58 Creek Road; hours are 8am-6pm daily, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
