El Festival de Latino se Cancela

Ocracoke's Latino Festival, scheduled for November, will not take place this year.

David Perez, director of the annual Festival Latino de Ocracoke, announced in a Facebook post that this year's events would be cancelled due to Hurricane Dorian.

Citing the difficult times that Ocracoke is going through in the aftermath of Dorian, and the need for so many in the community to rebuild their lives, David said the Festival committee made the decision to cancel for 2019.

David thanked everyone who helped or attended the Festival Latino de Ocracoke in the past, and hopes that the Festival will not be forgotten. He says they will reorganize for next year.

The 2019 event would have been the 4th annual Festival Latino de Ocracoke. Produced by the island non-profit, Ocracoke Alive, in partnership with Ocracoke’s vibrant Latino community, the festival features music, ballet folklorico dances, incredible food, games, and more. The Festival celebrates Ocracoke's unique Latino community and donates to island non-profits.

The 2018 Festival Latino de Ocracoke donated $2,500 to Ocracoke School and $1,000 to the Ocracoke Health Center. The Festival also supports Ocracoke Alive's school and community arts programming.
