How Do You Eat an Elephant?
Bill Cole spray-painted this piece of plywood offering a message of encouragement to the island.
It's propped up against the pile of debris in his front yard. Like almost everyone on Ocracoke, Bill and his wife, Leslie, and son, Nicholas, lost a lot of personal belongings in Hurricane Dorian's unprecedented high tide.
This is how Ocracoke is dealing with the disaster clean-up: one bite at a time. Baby steps. Keep on keeping on. We got this.
And that's how the Current will report on the disaster: one bite at a time, while we deal with our own mess and try to help our neighbors. Please stayed tuned for updates about how you can help your favorite sandbar.

Thanks, Bill!
