Fall on the sandbar....October is beautiful on Ocracoke.

And there's still a lot going on!

Tuesday, October 10th:   

2pm: Memorial Service for Thomas Midgett @ Ocracoke United Methodist Church, followed by a meal with the family in the Rec Hall. Please bring food anytime after 12 noon to the Rec Hall. 

6:30pm: Open Jam @ Coyote Music Den, 6:30-9pm – sing, play, listen – all ages, all levels welcome (youth are encouraged to come at 6:30). No charge, but donations welcome.

Wednesday, October 11th:

2pm: Go Dolphins! Home middle school Volleyball Game @ the Dolphin Tank (a.k.a. Ocracoke School gym) Dolphins v. Mattamuskeet. Fear the Pod!

6:30pm: Youth Choir Practice @ the Methodist Church. Open to all Ocracoke middle and high school students. 

7pm: Ocracoke Civic & Business Association Civic Affairs Meeting with Rudy Austin @ the Community Center. All are invited to attend (and the Current is allowed to report on it, too!) Hear updates from: 
  • Mosquito Control Board
  • National Park Service
  • Community Foundation
  • Tideland (re: Electric cable between Hatteras & Ocracoke)
  • Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department
  • Tom Pahl - County Commissioner

7pm: Word Play @ Coyote Music Den, 7-8:30pm. If you love words … bring something you wrote, read, heard and share, listen or tell a story. No charge, but donations welcome.

Thursday, October 12th:

11:30am Memorial service for Jule Garrish @ Ocracoke United Methodist Church. Interment will follow the service at Howard Cemetery.

7pm: The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department will hold their every-other-Thursday meeting at the Fire Hall at 7pm. They can always use new members! You can also stop by and get a way-cool OVFD t-shirt or order your reflective house number signs (so OVFD and Ocracoke EMS can find you!)

Friday, October 13th:

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Wine tastings pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

7:30pm: Live Music at the Coyote Music Den! The Coyote Music Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "signposts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Saturday, October 14th: 

6:30pm: Live Music!  Martin & Lou @ Oyster Co. 6:30-9:30pm

Sunday, October 15th:  

11am: Services at both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist (Sunday School 10am) and Ocracoke Assembly of God. The Assembly of God also has a 7pm service.

 

Fall Hours

This is also the time of year when businesses go to fall hours. We'll keep you posted!  

The Flying Melon is now closed Sundays as well as Mondays. Fall hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 5–9pm.

Fall Hours for Village Thrift: Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–5pm.

Fall Hours for Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum: Monday–Friday, 10am–4pm; Saturday 10am–3pm; closed Sunday.

Jason's Restaurant Open Monday–Saturday, 11am to 2:30pm for lunch and 5pm to 8:30pm for dinner. Closed Sunday.

New Fall hours for Dajio Restaurant: Lunch-Dinner 11am-9pm, and Shrimp Hour 3-5pm seven days a week. Closed for Breakfast. Pizza hours remain the same: Tuesday-Sunday 5-10pm. Closed Monday. Will close for the season after dinner on October 29th. 

Howard’s Pub is open every day from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. serving their full menu.
