Island Kids Celebrate Performing Arts
The Performance Festival features singing, dancing, and acting by students of Ocracoke School of Performing Arts, as well as food, drink, games, face painting, and bubbles for everyone from 10am–2pm.
Desiree Ricker started the OSPA to offer her teaching talents to island kids. The hub of the Festival will be in Desiree's backyard at 120 Howard Street. There you'll find the bake sale, games and activities, and the chance to enter the 50/50 raffle. The Festival is a progressive performance, with stops at the Coyote Den in the Community Square, aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee, and on the stage in the yard at Books to Be Red.
"This year will be the first to include performances from the Musical Theater classes, as well as monologues from Intermediate Performance, and examples of some of their favorite theater games," Desiree said. "There will also be a medley of short plays by the acting class, solos by voice students, and dances by all the classes." OSPA students range in age from pre-schoolers to middle schoolers.
Desiree wants all kids to feel welcome – she calls it "performances by children for children." Adults are invited, too. Feel free to drop in for any or all of it.
