Current Events Week of April 24-30
Monday, April 24th:
The weather is a bit iffy today, and nothing much is going on, so relax.
Tuesday, April 25th:
5:30pm: Ocracoke Occupancy Tax Board will meet at the Community Center to discuss funding requests they didn't finish discussing at the April 4th meeting. All are welcome to be flies on the wall.
Wednesday, April 26th:
7pm: Trivia Night @ Gaffer's. Only $2 to play; this week's proceeds will benefit Ocracoke's home daycare program. Come out and show off how smart you are! There are great prizes, too!
Thursday, April 27th:
7pm: Live music! Raygun Ruby, your favorite retro-80's band, plays 7-10pm at Dajio!
Friday, April 28th:
4pm: Cops vs. Coaches Baseball Game @ Community Park. No entry fee; donations happily accepted. All proceeds will benefit Ocracoke School Field Day. Good times!
8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "sign posts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
Saturday, April 29th:
8am: Off to the Races! Ocracoke's 5K/10K begins at 8am in front of Gaffer's. Watch for runners on the road!
12noon: Play Ball! Ocracoke Community Park hosts the Youth Baseball League games. The first game is at Noon; the second at 2pm. Come out and cheer on the Ocracoke Marlins and Rays! Concessions will be available.
1pm: It's Independent Bookstore Day! Come out and celebrate at Ocracoke's own Books To Be Red, 1–4pm. Drinks, snacks, sales, and give-aways! Come out and talk books!
6pm: Live music! Martin & Friends at Ocracoke Oyster Company, 6:30–9:30pm.
6pm: Food! Fiesta Latina @ the Community Center! Authentic Mexican tacos from 6-10pm (or while supplies last!)
9pm: Fiesta Latina Music, Dancing, and Games 9-Midnight @ the Community Center. Cash bar and sodas available all night. $5 to enter. All proceeds benefit the Festival Latino de Ocracoke, scheduled for Saturday, November 11th.
Sunday, April 30th:
8am: Blackbeard Half-Marathon! Come out and cheer the runners on! Both churches have regular services at 11am; the Assembly of God also has a 7pm service.Looking ahead....
The annual British Cemetery Ceremony will be Friday, May 12th. Stay tuned to the Current for more information!
