Spring is on its way to your favorite island...

The sleeping sandbar is beginning to awaken for spring. Lots of spring cleaning and projects are in the works as businesses prepare to open for the season. Keep track of openings on our "Who's Open?" page.

Monday, February 27th:

Tuesday, February 28th:

Happy Mardi Gras! Eat some pancakes! Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez! 

7:30pm: Town Meeting @ Community Center to discuss the proposed tram system and using occupancy tax to pay for it. The workshop-style meeting with the occupancy tax board and the planning committee is open to community members who want to be heard on this issue. There will be a similar meeting on Tuesday, March 7th. 

Wednesday, March 1st:

6pm: Ash Wednesday Service @ the Methodist Church. Special music by Gary Mitchell.

7pm: Trivia Night @ Gaffer's! $2 to play; proceeds will benefit Ocracoke's Meals on Wheels program. Come out and show us how smart you are! 

Thursday, March 2nd:

3:15pm: Open Batting Practice @ Ocracoke Community Park. All ages welcome! Fun and informal. 

Friday, March 3rd:

Zillie's Island Pantry switches to Spring Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 4-7:30pm; Friday: 4-8pm; Saturday1-8pm.

7pm: Special Program: Sanctuary Reflections @ the Ocracoke Library. All are welcome to the free program on Friday, March 3rd. The Ocracoke Library will present “Sanctuary Reflections in Story & Song," a program of original work by Vermont thespians Diana Bigelow and Jim Stapleton. A year ago the husband and wife team performed Mark Twain’s “Diaries of Adam & Eve” at the library.

Saturday, March 4th:

7am: Pony Island Restaurant opens for the season! Salsa Cheese Eggs, here I come! The Pony serves breakfast seven days a week from 7am-11:30am.

8am: Youth Basketball games in the school gym! Go teams!

6pm: Mardi Gras Womens' Wine Tasting @ Zillie's. The revelry will start at 6pm with 5 great wines, beads, masks, a King cake and the belated Mardi Gras Mambo…. they'll be open until 10 pm and everyone will be allowed to join the fun after 7:30. Sunday, March 5th:

Another quiet late winter day on the island. You could go to church.... Both churches have 11am services; the Assembly of God also has a 7pm service.

Looking ahead....

March 7th: Ocracoke Preservation Society Spring membership meeting @ 7pm at Deepwater Theater. Chester Lynn will be talking about the history of the mail boat Aleta. Enjoy desserts with coffee and tea, and a little bit of history! 

March 17th: St Patrick's Day Parade! Free Registration begins at 3:30pm @ Ocracoke Station. The parade route os from Ocracoke Station to Ocracoke Bar & Grille – the O'Bar – where a single winner will be awarded $550.00 for the best float or group effort. A real live Leprechaun will lead the tomfoolery! All are welcome to join in or watch!

March 17th: End of the Hunger Games Basketball 3-on-3 Tournament

March 24th: Ocracoke School Spring Variety Show6pm in the School Gym. Proceeds will benefit Ocracoke School PTA.

6th Annual Ocracoke 10k/5k, 1 Mile Family Fun Run & 2nd Annual Half Marathon will be April 29th & 30th. Register here
