Set Your Boat Aglow!

Ocracoke revives the Holiday Boat Parade set for November 26th.

There's a old tradition that Ocracoke resident Teresa O'Neal wants to bring back: the holiday parade of boats in Silver Lake harbor. With the help of Ocracoke Civic and Business Association and the Ocracoke Working Watermen's Exhibit, she hopes to kick off the Christmas season with a beautiful display of lighted boats.

Boats small and large are welcome! Ocracoke watermen, kayakers, sailors, fisherfolk, jet ski-ers – all are welcome to join in the fun and light up the waters of Silver Lake. Running lights are already red and green, so the holiday theme is easy!

On Saturday, November 26th at 7pm, boats will set the harbor aglow, and spectators can watch from the Community Store docks and enjoy complimentary refreshments at the Working Watermen's Museum.

"It's just a simple and fun way to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend, and start the Christmas season," Teresa said. She has missed the boat parade ever since the last one happened (15 years ago? 20?), and is eager to bring it back.

Please let Teresa O'Neal (588-0070) or Sundae Horn (921-0283) know if you want to participate with your boat or if you have any questions.
