November is quiet, but there's still plenty happening on the sandbar.

Monday, November 14:

1pm: Ferry Division meeting @ the Community Center. All are welcome to chat with ferry bigwigs about Ocracoke's watery highway. 

Super Moon! Be sure to look at it, just in case you missed it Sunday night. It will rise at 5:30-ish. 

Tuesday, November 15:

9am: Yard Sale! 9am–Noon at 30 Martha Jane Lane (Tilmon O'Neal house off Loop Road). Proceeds benefit Village Thrift, which supports Ocracoke Youth Center. Furniture, art work, small appliances, kitchen wares, and more-some of it is vintage Ocracoke. Village Thrift volunteers will be there to assist you.

6pm: Come out to honor local music legend Martin Garrish as he is awarded the Cultural Heritage Award at the Ocracoke Preservation Society Fall Membership Potluck. Eat at 6, listen to a little bit of OPS business, and then enjoy an evening program dedicated to Martin's musical contributions to the island. All are welcome to this community event at the Community Center.

Wednesday, November 16:

7pm: Trivia Night at Ocracoke Oyster Company! How smart are you? Prove it! This week's contribution to play is a non-perishable food item for the food pantry. 

Thursday, November 17:

6pm: The Ocracoke Mosquito Control Board meets at the Community Center. These people make living here bearable, and their meetings are open to all.

Current Events Week of Nov. 14th–20th

7pm: Ocracoke Alive annual meeting @ Deepwater Theater. Free dessert! Find out what Ocracoke Alive has been up to the past year and what they have planned coming up! Also, be sure to come out to thank the organizers of the Latino Festival for their wonderful new event!

Friday, November 18:

7:30pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night from March 25th – November 18th. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Saturday, November 19:

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Wine tastings pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

10am: Community Litter Pick-Up! 10am-1pm, meet at Ocracoke School. The person or group who finds:
-the most trash
-the greatest amount of recyclables
-the most interesting or unusual item
...will each be awarded a prize, made by Ms. Catherine M. Mitchell's Ocracoke School Art Students, all out of recycled materials!

6pm: Live Music at Ocracoke Oyster Company! Martin and Friends will play 6–9pm. Good times, great tunes!

7:30pm: The Coyote Den added a new Saturday night event for the fall: Raygun Ruby Unplugged! That's right -- it's everybody's favorite rockin' 80's cover band in a small, intimate listening room at the Coyote Den in the Community Square. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Sunday, November 20: 

11:am: Children's Sabbath at Ocracoke United Methodist Church. (Oops! The Current reported that this was goint to happen last week. The good news is that you didn't miss it!)

4pm: Fundraiser for Middle School basketball Team @ Jason's Restaurant: Baked Ham, with homemade mac and cheese, green beans, rolls and butter, and iced tea, all for $10. Come out and buy a plate to support the team trip to Kinston for preseason basketball tournament at Rochelle Middle School.
