Current Events Week of October 3-9

What we plan to do if we don't have a hurricane.

Carpe diem, people. Events early in the week should be unaffected, but all bets are off starting Thursday or so. Hurricane Matthew appears to be heading away from Ocracoke, but we are all keeping a weather eye on the tropics.

The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find the fall schedule here

Wonderful NPS volunteers and rangers might even open the Lighthouse. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.

Monday, October 3rd:

4pm: Go Dolphins! Come out to the Community Park to see the Ocracoke Dolphins varsity soccer team take on the Creswell Tigers. This is the team we tied on their turf – let's see what we can do at home!

6pm: Hyde County board of commissioners will hold their monthly meeting. Agenda and packets are here. Attend on Ocracoke by teleconference in the Ocracoke School commons.

Tuesday, October 4th:

An unscheduled day? It can either be a "batten down the hatches" kind of day or a "go to the beach" kind of day. Or maybe both!

Wednesday, October 5th:

EVACUATION BEGINS! A Mandatory Evacuation for visitors begins at 5am.

3pm: Flu Shot Clinic @ Ocracoke Health Center. Come get your flu shot! For real. Do it.

4pm: Go Dolphins! Two home games today! The Varsity Volleyball girls will play Gates County in the Ocracoke School gym, and the Cross Country team will run circles around the competition (down South Point Road? I think that's where they race....)
