Current Events Week of Sept. 5-11

Post-storm shelling is the best!
Post-storm shelling is the best!

Happy Labor Day and welcome to September on the sandbar!

Hermine is gone and Ocracoke is back in business! Come and see us....

The pace is slower and the air's a bit cooler and it's a great time to be here.

One word of caution: Hermine left some strong currents and onshore breaks in her wake. The lifeguards go off-duty after Labor Day, so please, please, be careful out there.

The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find that schedule hereWonderful NPS volunteers and rangers might even open the Lighthouse. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.

Wednesday, September 7th:

5pm: Art opening at Down Creek Gallery: Featuring local artist Roy Revels, with new works consisting of various mixed media, and new genre. Roy, a well-established abstract artist, says that his work is “more conceptual than anything else, and means to be thought provoking. It gives individuals the opportunity to draw their own opinions about the work, rather than feed certain ideals and subject matter pertaining to the sculptures and paintings.”  Come out 5–8pm to enjoy house music, hors d’oeuvres, and adult beverages provided by Zillies Island Pantry. Expose Yourself to Art!
