Outer Banks Group Facilities Reopening after Closure from Tropical Storm Hermine
All visitor centers at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Wright Brothers National Memorial are now open. All campgrounds on the seashore are open and the Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island Lighthouses have reopened for climbing.
All off-road vehicle permit offices are now open. Some beach access ramps have been reopened for off-road vehicle use. Current high tides are keeping other ramps closed to off-road vehicle use. These ramps will be reopened after it is safe to do so and assessments have been completed to protect any remaining sea turtle nests. Please check the Seashore’s Facebook page for updated status on access ramps: https://www.facebook.com/CapeHatterasNS.
Lifeguards are back on duty and will remain so through Labor Day. Long period swell from Hermine is creating dangerous rip currents and shore break. Visitors should use extreme caution when near the surf.
Our thanks to all emergency responders for keeping the area safe during and post storm.
