Bonfire and More Planned for Special NPS Program

The National Park Service invites all visitors and residents to attend our Night Sky Appreciation Event on August 25, 2016 at the Ocracoke Lifeguard Beach.

Rangers will be on duty to talk about the Night Sky and the Dark Sky Initiative being studied for Cape Hatteras.  

Special Guest Speaker Rob Temple will regale us with tales of the Sea and Pirates.

The Program will be approximately 2 1/2 hours during this evening. Visitors are encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket on which to sit.  

The approximate schedule will be: 

7:00 to 7:30 pm Welcome Bonfire.  Visitors are encouraged to bring their own S'more ingredients if they desire.

7:30 to 7:45 pm History of the Park Service leading up to Founder's Day August 25, 1916.  (Sunset approx 7:39 pm)

7:45 to 8:00 pm The Cape Hatteras Dark Sky Initiative

8:00 to 8:30 pm Tales of the Sea, Pirates, and The Night  

8:30 to 9:00 pm Night Sky and Star Program

9:00 pm until?    Photography at night, capturing the Milky Way, Star Trails

One does not need a camera or tripod to attend the Night Photography session.
