Island Images
Ocracoke Current readers all know and love Crystal's beautiful shots of the island's flora and fauna. She shoots people and events, too, and provides most of the good photos that we use to accompany stories. Many of you enjoy also seeing her pix on the Current's Instagram and Facebook posts.
Now you can check our her gallery of photos on her brand-new website, Island Images by Crystal. Prints are available to order, or you can hire her to shoot your family's portrait or take photos at your wedding or event. That's a new feather in her cap – she got her start being the official event photographer at Zillie's Island Pantry, and has discovered she loves working with people to commemorate a special day. Her work is also on display at Down Creek Gallery, where she had an art opening earlier this season.
Crystal is living out her childhood dream by being a year-round resident of Ocracoke. She volunteers with the National Park Service (taking care of the ponies and sea turtles), and enjoys exploring and photographing places, people, wildlife, and wild flowers around the island. Although her educational background is primarily in music and music education (she plays a mean trombone), she's now studying wildlife conservation, protection, and rehabilitation.
When she's not walking or riding her fat-tire bike for miles and miles on the beach, you can find Crystal at the National Park Service Visitor Center where she manages the bookstore and provides visitor information. She's also the volunteer organizer of the annual British Cemetery ceremony and luncheon, and is of course, a fabulous contributor to the Ocracoke current, as both a photographer and writer. You'll never see Crystal without her camera nearby.
She is married to Will and has two canine companions, Harley and Porter, who accompany her on her outdoor adventures. Crystal moved to Ocracoke from Maryland six years ago.
