Current Events Week of August 1–7
The Ocracoke Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is still going on! Stop by during the regular library hours: Weekdays 3–7pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm.
Figs are getting ripe, and the Ocracoke Fig Fest is coming up August 12th-13th!The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find that schedule here. Wonderful NPS volunteers and rangers open the Lighthouse a couple of times a week. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.
Monday, August 1st:
9am–Noon: Vacation Bible School at Ocracoke United Methodist Church. Join the Surf Shack VBS program Monday through Thursday this week.
1pm: Mondays at the OPS Museum means a Museum Tour at 1pm with an island resident with insider knowledge. Today, it's Emmet Temple!
4pm: Summer Reading Program Tie Dye Party! All are welcome to the Ocracoke Library for a fun celebration for the last day of the Summer Reading Program.

7:30pm: Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7. Read more about "Blackbeard: A Historical, Hysterical Account" here.
Tuesday, August 2nd:
1pm: Porch Talk at the OPS Museum. "Kayaking on Ocracoke" with Grace West. Porch Talks are free, informal, and informative!
3–5pm: Island Vibe Cafe Grand Opening 15% off first purchase! Beer, wine, and appetizers on the porch! Check out Ocracoke's newest hangout spot, located on British Cemetery Road across from Teeter's Campground.
6pm: Special Pop-Up Wine Dinner at 6pm the Berkley Manor Hosted by Zillie's Island Pantry; reservations required. Find out more about this delicious dining opportunity here.
8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
Wednesday, August 3rd:
POSTPONED due to weather. The next market will be on August 10th. 9am-1pm: Ocracoke Makers Market Stop by the Historic Wahab House lawn on Silver Lake between 9am-1pm for the open air market with art, crafts, handmade items, food, and more! This week's Makers market has been postponed until next week due to the rain forecast.
10am: Outdoor Classroom summer programs are offered every Wednesday at 10am. All programs are free, last approximately 90 minutes, are outdoors, and taught by Elizabeth Hanrahan, a certified wildlife educator. This week, you can learn to "Paint a Poop" at the Working Watermen's Exhibit at the Community Square.
10am: Dockside Talk aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee at the Community Store docks. Dockside Talks are free and sponsored by Ocracoke Alive. On Wednesdays, Capt. Rob and Fiddlin' Dave present Pirate Tales and Fiddle Tunes. This program is especially fun for families.
1pm: Just for Kids program at OPS at 1pm. This week, make a seashell mouse! All are welcome! A $5 donation for materials is appreciated.
8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
8pm: The weekly Ocrafolk Opry is tonight! Live music and storytelling by a variety of local talent. Shows begin at 8pm at Deepwater Theater. More info here.

10am: Dockside Talk aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee at the Community Store docks. Dockside Talks are free and sponsored by Ocracoke Alive. On Thursdays, Ocracoke Alive board member Tom Pahl will talk about the Story of the Wilma Lee.
