Current Events Week of July 18th
Hot summer days and nights bring lots of fun!

The Ocracoke Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is ongoing through the month of July. Stop by during the regular library hours: Weekdays 3–7pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm. 

The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find that schedule hereWonderful NPS volunteers and rangers open the Lighthouse a couple of times a week. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.

Monday, July 18th: 

Mondays at the OPS Museum means a Museum Tour at 1pm with an island resident with insider knowledge. Today, it's Al Scarborough!

Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7. Read more about "Blackbeard: A Historical, Hysterical Account" here.

Tuesday, July 19th:

Summer Reading Program Field Day at 11am! All are welcome to join in the fun at Ocracoke Library for Field Day! This is a free event for all ages. 

Porch Talk at the OPS Museum at 1pm. "Ocracoke Brogue" with Walt Wolfram and Jeff Reaser. Porch Talks are free, informal, and informative!

Special Pop-Up Wine Dinner at 6pm the Berkley Manor Hosted by Zillie's Island Pantry; reservations required. Find out more about this delicious dining opportunity here

Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, July 20th:

Sunrise Photo Walks! All you smug early-rising shutterbugs can meet at the Ocracoke Campground beach at 5:30am to get pro photo tips from the National Geographic Your Shot photo team. Read more about this opportunity here. 

Ocracoke Makers Market switches to Wednesdays this week! Stop by the Historic Wahab House lawn on Silver Lake between 10am and 5pm for the open air market with art, crafts, handmade items, food, and more! 

Outdoor Classroom summer programs are offered every Wednesday at 10am. All programs are free, last approximately 90 minutes, are outdoors, and taught by Elizabeth Hanrahan, a certified wildlife educator. This week, you can learn about "The Incredible Journey: The Water Cycle" at the Outdoor Classroom at NCCAT.

Dockside Talk aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee at 10am at the Community Store docks. Dockside Talks are free and sponsored by Ocracoke Alive. On Wednesdays, Capt. Rob and Fiddlin' Dave present Pirate Tales and Fiddle Tunes. This program is especially fun for families.

Just for Kids program at OPS at 1pm. This week, learn about Ocracoke pirate lore and make a pirate flag craft! All are welcome! A $5 donation for materials is appreciated.

The weekly Ocrafolk Opry is tonight! Live music and storytelling by a variety of local talent. Shows begin at 8pm at Deepwater Theater. More info here.
