Monday, March 21st:
Ocracoke Child Care opens for the season. Call 252-928-4131 to register your child.
Tuesday, March 22nd:
WOVV will hold its Annual Meeting on Tuesday evening, March 22nd, at 6pm at their new studio location, upstairs in the old fire hall on the Back Road. The first hour will be social; the meeting starts at 7pm. Bring a snack to share and we hope to see you there! Find out what's happening with your radio station.
Wednesday, March 23rd:
It's the S.T.E.M. Fair at Ocracoke School! (That's what us old'uns used to call the Science Fair.) Come out to see what the Ocracoke young'uns have learned! Everyone is welcome to view the projects and see the award winners at 2pm in the gym.
Play Ball! The Ocracoke Middle School Baseball Dolphins will play their first home game at 4pm today! Come out to the Ocracoke Community Park's field of dreams to see the game!
UPDATE: The Library Book Club will meet at 7pm at the Ocracoke Library to discuss I Am Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout. All are welcome! (Original date was Tuesday, but the day was changed so you can go to both the Book Club and the WOVV meeting!
Thursday, March 24th:
The Flying Melon Cafe opens for the season!
Devil's Backbone Launch Party at 4pm, at Zillie's! Three great brews on tap,... Vienna Lager (ABV 5.2%); Risen (8.4%) (a collaboration w/ Surly Brewing Co... coffee brown ale rested on oak) and Kabong (11.1%), a Triple Imperial IPA hopped, hopped, and dry hopped with excessive abandon. Reps will be on hand and great special pricing in place for the afternoon. Free Pint Glasses will also be available for the first 48 beers poured (1 glass per customer). Swing on By!
Coloring Night at Books to Be Red! Come out to color your stress away! 6–8pm. Books to Be Red provides coloring pages, crayons and markers, and refreshments, and it's FREE!
Tideland EMC is holding a special meeting at Ocracoke Community Center at 7pm. Tideland customers who have central AC/heat pump units are invited to come out and learn about a special offer from Tideland. They have new digital thermostats to give away that will help you conserve electricity in your home.
Maundy Thursday service at the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, 7pm.
Friday, March 25th:
Ocracoke Coffee Company opens for the season today! Smoothies and lattes – yay!
Good Friday service at 12 noon at Ocracoke United Methodist Church.
UPDATE: Thai Moon has postponed their opening until April 27th. Mmmmm, pad thai, how I've missed you.
Tonight also marks the opening show for Marcy and Lou's Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night from March 25th – November 18th. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
Saturday, March 26th:
Bring the kids for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10am the Methodist Church! All are welcome! Hippity hoppity, Easter's on its way!
Ocracoke Child Care fundraiser starts at 11:30am at the Community Center. It’s a Clam Chowder Cook-Off and everyone can join in the fun! Enter your clam chowder in the traditional (Ocracoke recipe) or non-traditional category (deadline Monday, March 30th), or just come out to taste the entries. Don’t like clams? There’ll be hot dogs and baked goods, too. Check out OCC's website for registration information!
Sunday, March 27th:
UPDATE: Please note place change: Happy Easter! If you're the morning type, you'll love the Sunrise Service at the CAMPGROUND Beach at 6:15am. The annual Easter Sunrise Service is a joint venture between the Ocracoke United Methodist Church and the Ocracoke Assembly of God. It's a moving service and a lovely time to be on the beach (or so they tell me.)
If you like to sleep in, both churches have regular Easter services at 11am.
