The last week of February.... where did winter go?
Monday, February 22:

This day is as good as any other to get your 50/50 raffle tickets from an Ocracoke 4th grader! Ocracoke School's 4th grade is going on a field trip to New Bern, Raleigh, and Williamsburg, VA next month and they are raising money to pay for it. Raffle tickets are just $2 each; half the money they collect will go to the 4th grade, the other half will go to the winning ticket holder! The drawing will be Friday, March 4th. Alyssa, Maren, Mariah, Elsie, Dibanhi, Yuletzy, Emilia, Alexis, Ronald, Daymon, Quinten, Christian, Will, or Silas will be happy to sell you a ticket! 

Tuesday, February 23:

Movie Night at Ocracoke Library: This one's for grown-ups. "Sarah's Key" starring Kristin Scott Thomas, based on the books by Tatiana de Rosney. The Library Book Club met to discuss the book last week and decided to watch the movie! All are welcome (even if you haven't read it), beginning at 6pm.

Wednesday, February 24:

Note: Due to weather, this even is postponed until Friday, February 26: The Ocracoke Library will present “Excerpts from The Diaries of Adam & Eve” by Mark Twain on Wednesday, Feb 24th at 7pm. Visiting Vermont thespians Diana Bigelow and Jim Stapleton will perform the delightful 45-minute reading. The program is free and all are welcome! 

Thursday, February 25:

Goin' to the candidates' debate, yeah! It's Candidates' Night at 6pm at the Community Center. Come out to learn more about candidates running for commissioner and state representative.

OCBA meeting, following Candidates' Night, at 7pm at the Community Center. 

Friday, February 26:

Pre-K Registration at Ocracoke School. Children who will turn 4 by August 31st, 2016 are eligible to register for Pre-K. 8am-Noon. 

The Ocracoke Library will present “Excerpts from The Diaries of Adam & Eve” by Mark Twain on Friday, Feb 26th at 7pm. Visiting Vermont thespians Diana Bigelow and Jim Stapleton will perform the delightful 45-minute reading. The program is free and all are welcome! 

Saturday, February 27:

Celebration of Life for Chuck Hotchkiss, 5pm at the Community Center. Oysters, beer, soda – and a potluck. Please bring a dish to share, and come out to share stories and memories of the Chuckster.

Ocracoke Child Care is holding a public information meeting, Wednesday, March 2nd, at 5:30pm. Details TBA.

Ocracoke School welcomes back the Rachel's Challenge program on March 3rd. Rachel's Challenge is an anti-bullying and school-violence program for high school students. Parent/community volunteers are needed. Please contact Mary via email mmcknight@hyde.k12.nc.us to express interest or ask questions. Volunteers will begin at 9am and the students (grades 9-12) will begin at 9:30. The program should conclude at 2pm. All participants need to bring their own lunch. 

Caribbean steel drum workshop available on Ocracoke in March. Scott Paulson of Island Time Steel Drums will offer a 5-session class in Deepwater Theater for ages 13-99. Come chase away those winter blues and learn to play these beautiful instruments. More info here.

Registration is now open for the Ocracoke Island 5K/10K, Family Fun Run, and 1/2 Marathon on April 23rd & 24th, 2016. Check out runocracoke.com for more information!
