Art Show for Current Photographer

Art Show for Current Photographer

Crystal's photos will be on display at Down Creek Gallery on October 7th.

Mark your calendars for Crystal Canterbury's art show debut! Ocracoke Current readers know and love her as one of our staff writers and our favorite photographer. (Like our Facebook page to see even more from Crystal's camera.)

Come out to Down Creek Gallery on the 7th, from 5–8pm, to meet Crystal, and enjoy an evening of live music by Rob King and tasty refreshments, too. Crystal's show is the latest in the twice-monthly "Expose Yourself to Art" series of opening receptions at the gallery.

Crystal's photos feature the beautiful scenery of both beach and sound. Crystal relocated to Ocracoke five years ago, fulfilling a major childhood dream to live on the island. Ocracoke is also where she also met and married her husband, Will. She has played the trombone since the age of 9, and has been part of the "Ocracoke Jazz Society" for the past several summers. She loves to explore Ocracoke's natural places. "I never leave home without a camera," she said.

Crystal has been a volunteer with the National Park Service for three years, feeding and caring for the Ocracoke wild ponies, and most recently working with sea turtles. Although her educational background is primarily music and music education, she plans on enrolling in a program to study wildlife conservation, protection, and rehabilitation. Crystal's photography is largely inspired by "island beauty," and her access to the wildlife on Ocracoke. Yay, Crystal!
