Current Events Week of 6/8/15
Even if you haven't yet recovered from the good times at the Ocrafolk Festival (I haven't), the week marches forward and right into...
Monday, June 8th:
Sorry, we missed posting this in time for Monday. There was a ferry meeting and a Health Department meeting and pirates and village girls invaded the OPS Museum, and I hope you saw all that on the Current calendar before it happened!
Tuesday, June 9th:
Coyote Plus One howls again! Their special guest this week is Rob Sharer, a longtime performer at the Ocrafolk Festival. Along with his band, Craicdown, Rob hosted the Late Night Celtic Jam last Friday, and played for the Festival square dance, on the workshop stage, in the Gospel Sing and the Finale Jam – and he still has the energy to take the stage one more time! The show starts at 8pm at the Community Center, and admission is $15 (free for kids under 12.) Not on Ocracoke? The live show will be broadcast on the web at concertwindow.com/coyote (cost = $1). Isn't technology amazing?
Wednesday, June 10th:
Local artist Robert Chestnut will be featured at this week's Art Opening at Down Creek Gallery, 5 – 8pm. All are welcome to come out to see his paintings, print press images, and various other works, including photography. Chestnut studied at Jacksonville University in Florida where he completed his Bachelors degree in Fine Art. He grew up on Ocracoke Island, and his work largely influenced by island life, and the ocean, is the central subject matter. Expose Yourself to Art gatherings include music and refreshments!
Ocracoke Civic and Business Association meets at 7pm at the Community Center. All are welcome to find out what's going on with OCBA!
The Ocrafolk Opry is back for its 15th season at Deepwater Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for youngens. Show starts at 8pm; doors open at 7:30pm.
Thursday, June 11th:
Come out to see and hear Molasses Creek in concert at Deepwater Theater! The band's new lineup includes Gary Mitchell, Fiddler Dave Tweedie, and Gerald Hampton (the old guys), plus new addition Kim France on bass and vocals. Molasses Creek has a new CD hot off the presses for the Ocrafolk Festival: "Waterbound" featuring the new line-up plus special guest Sarah Osborne on clawhammer banjo and vocals. The show starts at 8pm (doors open at 7:30); admission is $15 adults/$7 kids.Friday, June 12th:
School's out for summer! Ocracoke School dismisses students for the summer as soon as the last day's special assembly is over. Have a great summer, kids!
Congrats to the Class of 2015! Are you celebrating the graduation of Hunter, Hunter, Abby, Katie, Lucy, or Samantha? Then come out and join them at their Graduation Party at 5:30pm at the Berkley Manor. Good times!
Sunday, June 14th:
The Ocracoke School Graduation Ceremony will be held at the school gym.
