Current Events Week of 6/1/15
Monday, June 1:
It's one of my three favorite days of the whole year because one of my three favorite people was born on this day... Happy 9th Birthday, Mariah Daisy!
I won't be going to the Hyde County Board of Commissioners meeting (6pm at the Ocracoke School commons) on my kid's birthday, but never fear – Current staff writer Crystal Canterbury will attend and report on the shenanigans. The commissioners will vote on the 2015-16 county budget, and, if they pass the budget with the school board's request intact, we'll get our art program back at Ocracoke School! You can read the agenda and supplemental information about the commissioners' meeting here.
Tuesday, June 2:
Coyote Plus One starts their summer season! Every Tuesday from June 2nd – September 1st, Coyote (Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro) will have a different Plus One guest performer. The season kicks off with Ocracoke's own music icon, Martin Garrish, The show starts at 8pm at the Community Center, and admission is $15 (free for kids under 12.) Not on Ocracoke? The live show will be broadcast on the web at concertwindow.com/coyote (cost = $1). Isn't technology amazing? Check out the list of performers here. Marcy and Lou have been together in life and music since 2001, and say that this summer show is like "being in 15 bands!”
