Happy Cinco de Mayo! Break out the blender! (I want to thank my first-born for timing his birth so that I can celebrate each year of his life with a much-deserved Margarita.)

You can also celebrate by taking a ferry ride – more runs will be added to the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route today. See the schedule here.

Today is also the day we've all been waiting for – a passenger ferry will arrive on Ocracoke! It's just a test-run, but we get to go aboard (at the dock) and see what all the fuss is about. The Provincetown III will conduct sea trials Monday and Tuesday, then dock at Silver Lake Harbor in Ocracoke on Tuesday. Members of the public will be allowed to tour the ship between 4-7pm, while the Ferry Division conducts another open house meeting between 5 and 7pm at the Ocracoke School gymnasium.

Wednesday, May 6th:

Book Fair hours are Thursday and Friday, 3 –7pm; Saturday 9am – 1pm, and Monday and Tuesday, 3 – 7pm.

Friday, May 8th:   All are welcome to the annual British Cemetery Ceremony at 11am, with a luncheon following at the Community Center. Why do we have a British Cemetery on Ocracoke? Find out here

Looking ahead to next week…

Everyone is welcome to attend the Ocracoke Issues Luncheon sponsored by the Hyde County Chamber of Commerce. It's on Tuesday, May 12th at 11:30am at the Berkley Manor. Come out and learn about how the VisitNC TRAC program can help you and your business. More info here.
