Current Events Week of Jan. 19

The week starts with a holiday for Ocracoke School kids and staff as they honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Remember, it's a national holiday, so don't embarrass yourself by going to the bank or P.O.!

Tuesday, January 20:

The kids are back in school and ready for a HOME basketball game. The Ocracoke Dolphins will play the Columbia Wildcats, starting at 4pm. Join in the fun in the Dolphin Tank (a.k.a. Ocracoke School gym) or listen to WOVV 90.1 FM or wovv.org. Fear the Pod!

Wednesday, January 21:

The Middle School Dolphins also have a HOME basketball game this week -- on Wednesday, with a start time of 4pm. Go Dolphins!

Ocracoke Civic and Business Association meets at 7pm at the Community Center. All are welcome to come and find out what's going on and get involved. Why not? Read the (draft) minutes from last month's meeting here. 

Thursday, January 22:

The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department will hold their every-other-Thursday meeting at the Fire Hall. They can always use new members! You can also stop by and get a way-cool OVFD t-shirt. 

Friday, January 23:

All are welcome to the 2nd Affordable Care Act Workshop at the Ocracoke Library from 3 – 7pm. A trained health care navigator will be available to answer your questions and assist you in the enrollment process for the Health Insurance Marketplace. Appointments can be made online, and walk-ins are welcome if time allows. A general information presentation will be held in the first hour of the meeting on January 9th. Please stop by the library and sign up for the presentation. or more information call (252)216-6623 or visit www.ncgetcovered.org. Saturday, January 24:

Everyone's invited to the 2nd annual "Ocracoke Through Your Eyes" Art Show and Silent Auction at OPS! Come out to enjoy the reception (5 – 7pm) and see all the little works or art donated by professional and amateur artists to benefit Ocracoke Preservation Society. The vino will flow and the bids will soar!

Also this week…. The Ocracoke Girl Scouts will be taking orders for Girl Scout Cookies! Order now, pay later (end of February) when the cookies are delivered!
