Current Events Week of 1/5/15

Monday, January 5th:

Hyde County Commissioners Meeting, 6pm in the Ocracoke School commons area. All are welcome to attend. Agenda items include discussion of passenger-only ferries, raises for school board members, and a possible new leash law for Ocracoke canines. Check out the complete agenda here. 

Tuesday, January 6th:

Hyde County Board of Education meeting, 4pm in the Ocracoke School information highway room. Come out to see if all the school board members can all stay awake this month! 

The Ocracoke Dolphins play basketball @ Plymouth High School, starting at 5pm. Listen at WOVV 90.1FM or wovv.org. 

Wednesday, January 7th: 

Brrrr! We don't usually do weather reports on the Current, but this week will bring a newsworthy change…. Old Man Winter will finally find Ocracoke. Enjoyed the 70-degree winter weekend? Too bad! Temps will drop below freezing Wednesday night and into Thursday. It will be windy, too, of course. Do we dare wish for snow? 

Thursday, January 8th:

Planning Board meeting, 7:30pm at the Ocracoke Community Center. Might not be as entertaining as last month, but you never know! 

OVFD meeting, 7pm at the Fire Hall. Our OVFD firefighters rock! And you can be one of them – they are always in need of more help. They meet every other Thursday at 7pm. Come out to be a part of this vital organization.

Friday, January 9th:

Affordable Care Act workshop, 3 – 7pm at the Ocracoke Library. A trained health care navigator will be available to answer your questions and assist you in the enrollment process for the Health Insurance Marketplace. Appointments can be made online, and walk-ins are welcome if time allows. Saturday, January 10th:

"Ocracoke Through Your Eyes" artwork due to OPS Museum. If you are creating a canvas for the 2nd annual OPS Art Show Fundraiser, please turn it in by January 10th. The Art Show is scheduled for January 24th, 5 – 7pm. If you don't have a canvas yet, it's not too late! Call Amy at 928-7375 to get one. More information here.

Sunday, January 11th:

Sunday Dinner Fundraiser for Ocracoke High School, 11:30am – 2pm, at Jason's Restaurant. Roast pork, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner roll, tea or water for $10! There will also be a bake sale. Take out only. Come out and support the Ocracoke High School students! Proceeds will benefit the prom and the Junior/Senior class trip to Washington, DC. Thank you for your support!

Planning ahead for next week…. 

There will be a public meeting with the ferry division on Monday, January 12th at 1pm at the Community Center and a home basketball game the same day at 4pm. Go Dolphins!
