The Ocracoke Current's guide to holiday shopping! 

Christmas shopping is more fun when you buy locally – hooray for small businesses! Lots of shops have end-of-season sales, and you won't get trampled on Black Friday on Ocracoke! 

The Current’s crack team of super shoppers hit the streets recently to round up some ideas for this Holiday Gift Guide. Here’s what they want to give – or, to be honest, receive (we all found stuff for our own selves and dropped big hints to our companions.)

We love supporting the businesses that support us! The following shops and restaurants advertise with the Current and we thank them for it! 

We stopped at:

Over the Moon -- Open 10am-ish 'til 5pm-ish. In December, if Cathy's not there, her number will be posted on the door -- call and she'll let you in! 

Zillie's Island Pantry -- Open 1 – 7:30pm Monday - Saturday, Sunday 12 – 7:30.

Mermaid's Folly -- Open most days, 10 – 4.

Captain's Cargo -- Enter through the lobby of Captain's Landing, every day, 10 – 5. 

Ocracoke Restoration -- Open Thanksgiving weekend, and December 26th – January 2nd. 

Books to Be Red -- Open most days, 12 - 5. 

Tradewinds -- Open through November. In December, there's a number on the door to call -- please call if they're not open! Will be open between Christmas and New Year's. 

Village Craftsmen -- December hours will be 11am – 4pm Tuesday – Saturday, and Sunday 10am – 2pm.  Closed Dec. 24th and 25th. Closing for the year Dec. 31st. 

Ocracoke Variety Store -- Open every day 8am – 7pm. 

If you'd like to support a great cause with your Christmas giving, Ocracoke has plenty of them to choose from! 

OVFD -- t-shirts make a great gift!

OPS -- the gift shop will be open Monday– Saturday, 10am – 4pm, and Saturday 10am – 3pm through the Wassail Party on Tuesday, December 8th.

Ocracoke Alive -- make a donation to help out the 2016 Arts Partnership at Ocracoke School!

WOVV -- memberships and t-shirts make great gifts! Someone is at the station between 10am-4pm every day! Stop by and say hi!

Ocracoke Library -- Join Friends of the Library or donate money for more books!

Ocracats -- cute notecards featuring Ocrakitties are available at Mermaid's Folly. But for a gift that really keep on giving, think about adopting an Ocracat of your own!

Village Thrift -- you can find all kinds of goodies here, and all proceeds benefit Ocracoke Youth Center. On Black Friday, everything is 50% off! Open 11am-4pm.

  • Ship-in-bottles by our good friend Jim Goodwin are available at the Village Craftsmen! We've given Windfalls-in-bottles to many family members!
  • Somebody please tell Rob that my life is missing a piece of that leaf pottery (top two rows) at the Village Craftsmen.
