The Dolphins won their second straight volleyball match on Tuesday.

In Tuesday’s game the Lady Dolphins faced the Tigers of Creswell.

The starting lineups for the dolphins were: sophomore Bricia Rivera, sophomore Sydney Austin, junior Josie Winstead, senior Katie O’Neal, senior Lucy O’Neal, and senior Samantha Styron.

In the first set of the match the Dolphins, sparked by a great start, an away with a 23-10 lead in a short amount of time. But the Tigers had an answer, scoring 5 points to the Dolphins' 2 to end the set. Nonetheless the Dolphins still dominated the set 25-15.

The second set had a much different story. The Dolphins did not have as hot of a start as the 1st match and found themselves down 8-9. The contest was very close with the Tigers holding a slim lead until the very end of the match when the Dolphins took back the lead with the score being 23-22. With two aces in a row by Sydney Austin, the Dolphins won the set 25-22.

Going into the third set it appeared as if the dolphins were about to accomplish an easy victory being up 2-0 in a best-out-of-5 game. But the Tigers had other plans. Midway through the set the Dolphins found themselves down 12-17. The ladies ignited a run to bring the score back to within 2. The remainder of the set was a back and forth thriller with the Dolphins only down 1 at 23-24, Creswell captured the last point of the set winning 25-23.

The 4th set was another back and forth game filled with excitement. The game being very close and the Tigers went on a run starting with the score 14-12 and lasting until it was 14-20. The Dolphins did everything they could to fight back but their efforts were not quite enough and Creswell won the set 25-20. The match was now tied with two sets each.

The 5th set goes a little differently than the others. Since it is a tiebreaker instead of playing to 25 points, you play to 15 points. The Dolphins had a different mindset going into this set than the two previous. Starting off with a 4-0 lead, the Dolphins were playing with confidence. The Lady Tigers had a small run of their own, evening it up at 7-7, but all hope that the Tigers had of winning were crushed by the Dolphins as they took the set and the game 15-0.

This is the Dolphins' first winning streak of the year; last Thursday they cruised by Mattamuskeet. This game was not an easy road, but for the Dolphins a win is a win!

Editor's note: As we post this, we found out that the Dolphins lost in three sets to the Plymouth Vikings. Best of luck to the Dolphins in their next match against Manteo on the 9th. They face a double-header at Camden on the 11th, then return home to face the Hatteras Hurricanes on the 16th. See you there!
