Seventeen children started their school journey in Pre-K today!

Eight seniors started the beginning of the end of high school today also. A ninth classmate will join them when he returns from an off-island trip. Welcome back, class of 2014! There are 36 more high school students to mingle with in grades 9-11.

Arriving at 7:55 with backpacks, lunch boxes, and school supplies in hand were 99 elementary youngens and 31 kids in middle school. No wonder the hallways were crowded! The total Ocracoke School enrollment is a whopping, record-breaking 175 students! (Last year, it was 159.)

This year's pre-Kindergarten class has 17 students. That's a big class for Ocracoke School, but keep in mind that 1st grade and 9th grade both have 18 students. Wow. Two classes tie for smallest this year: 11th grade and 8th grade, with a paltry seven students in each.

Clockwise, more or less: Alex Santiago, Essie O'Neal, Petros Burleson, Jonah Daniels, Dulce Resendiz, teacher aide Serina O'Neal, Imanol Guerroro, Zoe Modlin, Uriah Johnson, Brayden Swain, Angel Garcia, Jayden Dominguez, Arabella Paul,

Best of luck to these, the youngest and oldest students, and everyone in between! And a big welcome to new students Silas Tretheway (2nd), Annie Bittner (10th) and Cecelia Carter (10th).
