Happy Campers
High school history teacher (and camp co-organizer) Leslie Cole sent us these great pictures from the trip. She also lent us a couple of the kids' journals, quoted below.
"[At the Richmond Science Museum] my favorite part was watching the rats play basketball!" Lucy O'Neal
"Monticello was breathtaking, one of the more beautiful places I've seen. And beauty was just the start. From books to Native American artifacts, and stupendous inventions, Thomas Jefferson had it all." Hunter Collins
"That night we had a campfire, roasting marshmallows and playing manhunt. (It's like Hide-and-Seek, but outside in the dark.) I think that was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip, just laughing and relaxing with my friends." Trista Spencer
"We watched "The Hunger Games" in a movie theater. I really liked it, and I was excited because I had finished the book the day before." Samantha Styron
"Our guide took us on a tour at the Confederate White House and we got to see all the rooms and decorations. It was a great experience. Then we took a medical tour to see how health was during the Civil War." Katie O'Neal
"I was kinda sad to leave it behind. I think everyone else was, too, to be honest. There was a lot of memories made, and I think just being with friends that close for that long was my favorite detail." Trista Spencer
"The camping trip, overall, was very fun! The food was good, and the trips were exciting. My favorite part was when we went to Monticello. And even though some people fell off the bunkbeds, most of the times it was cold, and [the cabins] were bug infested, I would definitely go again if I could!" Brittany Boos
