Police Blotter 4/17/2012

Early in the week officers recovered a game console that found its way to Buxton after being stolen from an Ocracoke home.  Supoenaed internet records allowed the department to track the console through an online subscription service. 

"It took time, but once we got the IP address we can get a warrant to go to the house it's streaming into," said Sergeant Jason Daniels.

A 911 call around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday led to the arrest of a visitor for domestic assault.  The man was transported to Dare detention center.  Officers helped the female victim arrange her belongings and a ride off the island.

On Friday another person fell off a golf cart and hit their head, said Daniels.  NPS, EMS and deputies all responded to the call in the down base parking lot.  The 17 year old male took a helicopter ride to Greenville.

There have been three severe head traumas on golf carts in the past nine months, said Daniels.  One was a fatality, and another led to an extended stay in the hospital.  The sheriff's department has drafted a request to the county commissioners to add a rule requiring seat belts for all passengers in golf carts.

"We want people to enjoy their vacation, and not end up in the EMS room," said Daniels. 

On Saturday night one visitor may have been enjoying his vacation a little to much.  Officers got a call alerting them that a man was passed out in School Road, near its intersection with Highway 12. 

"If anyone had made a right hand turn, they'd have hit him," said Daniels, who helped the man get home safely. Besides a "handful of drunks" the rest of the weekend was low key.
