Jimmy's Garage Party
Outside was decorated from the roof to the ground with Christmas lights and decor. As you tried to walk inside (depending on how cold it was the big bay doors were open if warm, if not closed) to standing room only in a room filled with ages newborn and up you usually didn't get far because you had to stop and talk to someone.
But inside in the far left hand corner there was a stage set up and a Christmas tree, to your right were numerous tables lined up with just about any kind of food you could think of and to the left right inside the door there was a lil bit of something, something to sip on.
People usually started lining up not long after to get a plate of the delicious food and to find a place to sit if you could if not you stood up and ate. Usually around 8 ish the band started tuning up and the chairs started getting cleared to the outer edges of the garage floor to make room for dancing. Not long after the band started playing and people would start dancing the night away to Wooly Bully, Gimme 3 Steps, Cadillac Ranch, Honky Tonk Women and would end it with hands up in the air to Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
I don't know how many years Jimmy and his family hosted this Christmas party but it was a highlight of the holiday season for the whole island. I hope they know how much happiness it bought to everyone to be able to celebrate together and see each other. Thank you for helping us make more Ocracoke memories.
Sadly I couldn't find any pictures of Jimmy's Garage decorated outside but I did find this picture of the band on the inside.
