New Ramp Opens at Lifeguard Beach
Cape Hatteras National Seashore Superintendent David Hallac is happy to announce that the new boardwalk at the Ocracoke Day Use Area is now open for use. The new boardwalk provides accessibility to a new viewing platform as well as access directly to the lifeguarded beach. The viewing platform and beach access boardwalk meet the requirements of the American Barriers Act (ABA), and provide a safe pathway for visitors to view the beauty of Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned for early June to celebrate the opening of this new viewing platform and boardwalk, as well as the new off road vehicle route Ramp 63 which is nearing completion.
In other Park news, the lifeguards are back on duty beginning Saturday, May 28th. They will watch over the beach every day, 9am–5pm, until Labor Day.
