Ocracoke Breaks Out Fab Footwear
If you live on an island, you've got to be ready for wet and windy weather, and also for those special occasions when your house becomes a house boat, and your yard is waterfront property.
Such are the good times when Ocracokers show off their go-go boots.
Don't have any? You can shop on the island at Tradewinds Tackle, the Variety Store, or Ocracoke Garden Center (where the kicks are appropriately floral.) Tradewinds got a shipment on Saturday, and is expecting more boots to arrive Friday. The Variety Store sold about two dozen pairs, but could've sold a hundred, reported owner Tommy Hutcherson. When I stopped by for groceries this evening, the shelf of boots was wiped clean. Ocracoke Garden Center has mostly smaller sizes left, which is why my kid is stylin' and my feet are plain Janes.
Ocracokers were rockin' the rubber boots at the Post Office, in the Variety Store, and out on the streets. They are appropriate attire for all your sartorial needs – you can even wear them to a swanky opening reception at an Art Gallery. (I wasn't the only one!)
