Academic and Athletic Excellence
A wonderful group of parents, grandparents, students and faculty were in attendance at the Academic Excellence Banquet. The event was catered by Jason's restaurant, which always makes for an enjoyable night.
Mrs. Leslie Cole welcomed the guests. Leslie is the Ocracoke School Teacher of the Year. After the invocation, given by Reverend Richard Bryant of the Methodist Church, dinner was served. After dinner, Katie O'Neal, Class of 2015 Valedictorian, introduced Bill Jones, a storyteller who lives on Ocracoke. Bill told a story of his early education at a boarding school in the South. The story was very entertaining and was a good message about coming of age, education, and how much teachers can mean to young students.
Students in grades 3-12 were recognized for making all A's and B's for the entire year. These high achieving students received a plaque engraved with their name and achievement. The names were announced by Leslie Cole and presented to the students by Principal Walt Padgett.
