June is World Oceans Month!

NPS will host beach cleanups; Ocracoke's is June 24th.

The month of June marks the beginning of summer and also the beginning of World Oceans Month.  The oceans make up approximately 70 percent of the earth and are global natural treasures providing a source of food and energy and the foundation of many aspects of life on Earth.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore staff is celebrating the bountiful ocean environment and its resources by hosting and participating in three Seashore beach cleanups.  Throughout the month, on Wednesday, June 10, 17 and 24, the public is invited to participate at various locations along the Seashore from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to remove trash and man-made debris from our beautiful beaches. 

  • June 10, 2015 - Coquina Beach Bathhouse, Bodie Island
  • June 17, 2015 - Old Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Site parking lot, Hatteras Island
  • June 24, 2015 - Lifeguarded beach parking lot, Ocracoke Island

Bring leather gloves, water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray.  Wear appropriate clothing, including toe-closed shoes and hats.  Trash bags will be provided.  Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them.
