Solid Waste Superintendent James Blount is overseeing the chipping of storm debris from Hurricane Arthur. According to Mr. Blount, the chipping crew is currently working the lighthouse area. After completion of the roads around the lighthouse, they will start at Ride the Wind and work the neighborhoods on that side of Hwy 12 moving towards the convenience site (this should include the bank area, behind the Variety Store, etc).

In the next couple days, the crew will start at Ocracoke Chile Care and go down Middle Rd. to Jackson Dunes. They will work the roads on the sound side as they move from Jackson Dunes to Oyster Creek, servicing the Sunset Dr. area on their way back to the center of the village. 

Please keep in mind that chipping is limited to debris and limbs less than 6 inches in diameter.  Anything larger than 6 inches across should be separated and hauled to the Ocracoke solid waste site. 

Superintendent Blount estimates it will take a couple more weeks of chipping until the entire island has been serviced.
