With the traditional start of the summer travel season just days away, the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Ferry Division is adjusting its Hatteras Inlet schedule for Friday, May 23 to accommodate travelers who will be arriving for the Memorial Day weekend in the late afternoon/evening hours.
On Friday, the Hatteras Inlet route will be dropping its 8:30 a.m. departure from Hatteras and its 10:00 a.m. departure from Ocracoke. In exchange, it will be adding a run at 8:30 p.m. from Hatteras and a 10 p.m. run from Ocracoke.
"Traditionally, we have seen an influx of travelers at the Hatteras terminal on the Friday evening before Memorial Day," said NC Ferry Division Director Ed Goodwin. "This slight schedule adjustment will help get those passengers to their destinations quicker, while having a minimal effect on morning and afternoon traffic."
