Superintendent Barclay Trimble announced today that National Park Service (NPS) contract crew, Team Henry Enterprise, LLC, has begun repair work on the NPS Ocracoke pier and docks in Silver Lake which were damaged during Hurricane Sandy.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of May. The area will be temporarily closed during the construction of this project which includes one floating dock, two fixed docks, the overnight mooring spaces, and the parking lot immediately adjacent to these facilities.
The work will include replacing the potable waterline and fixtures, upgrade and replacement of electrical pedestals, removal of wooden walkway and replacement with aluminum decking, installation of ladders and life-rings with brackets and new mooring cleats.
The Ocracoke Campground waterline replacement project is also in progress. The work is expected to be completed prior to opening day of the campground, April 18, 2014.
