Come out Saturday night for a festive potluck dinner and then dance the night away with the Ocracoke Rockers. Your hosts, George and Janille Turner, are inviting the whole island to share the fun.
"We want to keep the tradition going of a big community party," Janille said, explaining that she and George miss the old Jimmy's Garage party and were inspired to have a Christmas party of their own. "It's such a great get-together," she said.
The restaurant won't be serving its regular menu; instead George will provide his smoked BBQ and cole slaw for the potluck. Everyone else is asked to contribute a dish to share. "Bring whatever you want," Janille said.
The dinner starts early – at 5:00 p.m. – because Janille wants to be accommodating to families and older people.
"If there are any seniors who can't make it, we have to-go boxes and we'll make dinners for them and deliver them," she said.
Children are welcome, and will enjoy the pinatas Janille has prepared. Dinner will be over early, she said, and then "you can get rid of your kids at eight o'clock and be back by nine."
That's when the serious partying begins. Enjoy dancing? Get your groove on and come on out while the Ocracoke Rockers play. Lower your inhibitions and get out on the dance floor!
Need a drink before you dance in public? The Topless Oyster's bar will be open during the party. Domestic beers will be $3, imports $4, and mixed drinks will be $5. George and Janille are also donating a keg of free beer for party-goers.
